Agriculture & Rural Development

Agriculture is the main source of income for Afghanistan’s economy and the engine of the recovery process and further development. The sector also generates 70 percent of employment and plays supporting role for the manufacturing and the service sectors. About 85% of the total population of Afghanistan depends on Agriculture for their livelihood and agriculture sector contributes 37% of the GDP. Afghanistan is known as the country of lowest ability to retain and utilize its water resources. All these are putting sustained stress to poverty situation.

IF Hop believe, that if all the natural resource bases including land, water and ecosystems has managed properly, this could be instrumental in reducing poverty, avoiding conflict and building peace as well as reducing the drug economy and human suffering particularly of women, children and people with disabilities.
